Kerala is a state on the south-western coast of India, formed in 1956. Capital Thiruvananthapuram; largest city Kochi. Language Malayalam. Population about 32 million.
Known for the highest literacy rate in India, the backwaters, Ayurveda, the Onam festival, and a long history of trade with Rome, Arabia and China through the port of Muziris.
