Photosynthesis
From JnanaBase
Photosynthesis is the process by which plants, algae and some bacteria convert light energy into chemical energy, producing glucose and oxygen from carbon dioxide and water.
Overall equation: 6 CO₂ + 6 H₂O + light → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6 O₂.
Two stages: the light-dependent reactions in the thylakoid membranes (producing ATP and NADPH) and the Calvin cycle in the stroma (fixing carbon). Chlorophyll absorbs mainly red and blue light, which is why leaves look green.
